Diane M. Goodman, JD, PhD

Diane is an A-V rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell. A-V is the highest level of legal competence and highest ethical standards possible. Diane was selected as a Super Lawyer by Los Angeles magazine for 2009 through 2018. In 2011, Diane received the 2011 Los Angeles Superior Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Program Outstanding Volunteer-Family law award for her work as a volunteer mediator for the family law courts. Diane also received the 2004 Difference Maker award from the American Bar Association, Solo and Small firm section.

Diane's practice focuses on family law, including mediation, dissolution, paternity, adoption and guardianship matters. Diane has handled many complex parentage issues including acting as co-counsel in a California Supreme Court decision regarding the rights of lesbian parents. Diane is the author of the parentage chapter in Practice Under the CA Family Code.

Diane was appointed as a member of the California State Bar Family Law Executive Committee from 2010 to 2013. She is the Past Chair of the Adoption Committee of the California State Bar Family Law Section Executive Committee. Diane is the Past President of the Academy of California Adoption Lawyers and its subsidiary, the Academy of California Family Formation Lawyers. She served as a commissioner on the Los Angeles City Commission on the Status of Women from 1980 – 1990. Diane is also a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, San Fernando Valley Bar Association, Family Divorce Solutions of the San Fernando Valley, and the Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Association.

Diane was co-counsel for Lisa R. in the 2005 California Supreme Court ruling which upheld parentage judgments for same-sex couples. She has testified at hearings held by State agencies against proposed regulations to limit second parent adoptions. Diane has spoken to a wide variety of community organizations regarding family law issues. She also regularly teaches legal continuing education classes in mediation, family law, adoption, and family formation law.

Diane has lectured at the Southwestern Law School, UCLA, Whittier Law School, Los Angeles County Bar Association, California State Bar annual conference, Association of Family Conciliation Courts, and California Psychological Association Conference.  She was also a featured speaker at the Hawaii Bar Association annual conference. Diane has been a guest on many news programs including the CNN programs, Larry King and Anderson Cooper 360 discussing family law, parentage, and adoption issues.

Diane M. Goodman attended University of La Verne Law School in the San Fernando Valley, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in May, 1984. She was admitted to the California State Bar in November, 1984. She obtained her Master's degree and PhD in Depth Psychology: Jungian and Archetypal Studies from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2014 and 2018 respectively.

Diane lives with her spouse of over four decades and they have an adult son. In her spare time, she plays ice hockey.
